Laura started her involvement with Positive Futures through targeted one-to-one work with our Family Support Worker. Laura, a single parent, was struggling with finances and her child’s education and had limited peer or family support to turn to for help.
Over a period of ten months, with 100% attendance at all support sessions, Laura worked with our Family Support worker on targets set to provide emotional support about her family issues, to enable mum to feel comfortable speaking to professionals, and also to have the confidence to be assertive around the needs of her family.
Laura’s personalised support included regular one-to-one meetings with our Family Support worker, who also supported Laura in attendance at school meetings. Our worker was able to facilitate the paperwork for the school support application, arranging a meeting with the school and SEN personnel to go over the process in detail to aid Laura’s understanding. Laura was introduced to a Household into Work mentor with a view of getting her back into work or training and has been registered at the local Community Shop to help with household budgets.
Positive Future’s Family Support worker was able to bridge the gap between school professionals and Laura, helping to support her understanding of her child’s education as well as supporting in other areas of her life.
After numerous meetings in the school to address the EHCP needs, Laura’s son received additional support that has helped reduce his exclusion rate in school, which is a relief for Laura.
Our Family Support worker also facilitated a meeting for Laura to pursue a volunteering position to help enhance her employability skills.
Laura was also able to complete a resilience program with Positive Futures Family Support and has now applied for a paid employment position as a result.
