Kids had cracking Easter holiday thanks to Positive Futures

Positive Futures Liverpool, a youth charity based in North Liverpool, recently ran a successful Easter Holiday Club for 50 young people in their new youth space on Tetlow Way.

Positive Futures, who offers a range of detached, school and targeted support work set-up the club to provide a cost-effective solution for parents in the local area, whilst giving young people the chance to learn new skills such as cooking, arts and crafts and sports. The holiday club, which ran across three days during the second week of the Easter break, sold-out quickly, with significant uptake from the existing young people who already engage with Positive Futures and their families. The club welcomed 50 young people through its doors, for eight hours a day – providing approximately 1,200 hours of activities.

Talking of the holiday club, one parent commented;

“The timeframe for days out were brilliant. For the average working parent this covered childcare as well as a day out for our children, all for a small contribution which is perfect for struggling families. We also weren’t pressured to pay this which I feel was a great relief.”

The holiday club aimed to not only provide a safe space for young people, in a space designed by young people, but it also aimed to develop the soft skills of the young people who attended, skills such as confidence building, team work and independence. The team at Positive Futures set out to achieve this by planning a varied and robust schedule of activities that covered something for everyone. Arts and crafts, a trip to the ice cream farm, visits to local parks, cooking, gaming and the cinema were all on the agenda.

One young person who attended the holiday club said;

“I liked it because it was nice getting to see my friends and going out.”

Talking of the initiative, CEO of Positive Futures Clare Corran said;

“We are always looking for new ways to engage with more young people, and now we have our youth space just down the road from our head office, it means that we can now deliver more sessions and activities to even more young people.

“The beauty of the holiday club was not only the wide range of activities, which gave young people the chance to meet new friends and try new things, but we also provided every young person with a nutritious breakfast and lunch every day at very little or no cost.

“We see every day the struggles of some local families, and the extra stress that school holidays can bring to parents. But at Positive Futures we want to help families overcome as many barriers as possible, and if we can’t help them directly, we will always know another organisation who can. On this occasion we could help them directly, so we did. Because we truly want every young person to achieve their potential.
