The first North West Snow Camp has left a group of Positive Futures young people feeling motivated and accomplished, thanks to a new partnership with Snow Camp UK.
10 young people took part in the snow camp, which was the follow on from a taster two-day Snow Sports programme in 2018. Hosted at Manchester’s Chill Factor-e, the young people who attended the programme gained a combination of snow and life skills, often stretching them beyond their comfort zone to achieve their objectives.
But the programme wasn’t just about gaining new skills, the young people also worked towards a nationally recognised ASDAN qualification, which will to help boost their CV.
Talking of the experience, one young person from Positive Futures said;
“I feel so much more comfortable and happier within myself, this has been down to taking part in these sessions and seeing myself grow and develop at something I never thought I would have had the chance too.”
Another said;
“Thanks so much for this opportunity, I’m so glad I have had the chance to do this I am enjoying it a lot and feeling more confident with myself so thank you.”
Callum Gibb, North West Programme Manager at Snow Camp UK said;
“The last six weeks working with the group from Positive Futures has been awesome. The young people have made massive progress in their snow sports ability and also got stuck in to all of the life-skills sessions. I couldn’t have asked for a better group for the first Snow-Camp North West Graduate Programme. The group worked well together and made significant progress throughout the six weeks.”
Talking of the partnership and impact of the programme, Positive Futures CEO Clare Corran said;
“Positive Futures is all about giving young people access to opportunities which helps them to realise their potential. Programmes such as these are so beneficial to young people, as we get to watch them not only gain new skills and experiences, but they also often overcome personal barriers to engage with these programmes. It’s a true example of how collaborative working can support young people to achieve their potential.”
