CASE STUDY | Positive Futures Family Support Worker leads the charge for Bespoke Educational Pathway for young person

Over a six-month period, Gaynor Moore, Family Support Worker with Positive Futures, has been working tirelessly to support a local Liverpool family who were desperate for some support. The young person in question, to be known as Kate, was struggling with mental health and wellbeing, and her mum was looking for support around her daughter’s education and broader intervention, to support her daughter’s educational achievement.

The goals

After being referred to Positive Future’s Family Support Worker by one of the other Positive Futures services, Gaynor agreed some clear goals with mum. These were;

The intervention

Gaynor worked alongside mum and numerous other agencies to formulate the EHAT process. She met with mum on a regular basis to discuss progress and next steps, along with supporting the family with financial planning, weekly food parcels, toy vouchers ahead of Christmas and providing some PJs to the family as part of the charity’s #WinterWarm campaign.

The support that Positive Futures offered went way beyond the initial referral, to ensure that the family were fed, warm and were able to enjoy a Christmas together with presents under the three, something which may not have happened without the intervention of the Positive Futures team.

The outcomes

After only a few short months, Kate started to engage more with her bespoke timetable. An EHAT was completed, and additional support was put into the family home for all siblings.

Mum continued to engage and work closely with the Positive Futures Family Support Service, who also signposted her to the Household into Work programme where mum was able to secure an advocate to help her more.

The impact

Mum was delighted with the support she received and was incredibly receptive to the process in order to gain access to the various support agencies she needed for herself and her family. She went on to say;

“Gaynor has provided me with amazing support by helping with my self-esteem and self-worth. She assisted me with my daughter’s education, giving me the support, I desperately needed. She was a strong and assertive mentor, who empowered me to have a positive approach.”
